DUKE RIM BACCARA ULTRA 48 SLR2 OLD DESIGN
ARTISANAL RIM BACCARA ULTRA LIGHT WEIGHT 48 SLR2 DISC
carbon DUKE Rim UD, developed and tested in Vendée (France).
New DUKE carbon UD rim, designed, developed and tested internally. For its wheels, DUKE owns the manufacturing tools!
The new DUKE Baccara SLR2 wheels are the latest evolution of the essential 3K Baccara. They are now available in 4 heights: 36, 42, 48 and 56 mm, disc braking or pads, symmetrical or asymmetrical profile. For this new generation, we worked on 3 points: weight, comfort and aerodynamics. Thanks to the SLR2 ultra technology we have lowered the weight by 10%, due to the use of high modulus fibers and a new process of molding in sealed enclosure with resins of new generation. This process also allows better filtration of vibrations generated by the particle size of the bitumen. The comfort is improved. The inside width between hooks is larger with 21mm. This gives more volume to the tires and thus improves performance, comfort and cornering grip. A wide rim also means being able to use thinner and lighter tires while maintaining the comfort, softness and grip provided by a larger volume of air. The recommended tire widths are 25mm and 28mm, tubeless or tubetype. The profile of the rim has been reworked to improve its aerodynamics and stability in all wind conditions. The outer width is larger with 27.6 mm and has a new warhead shape. This reduces aerodynamic drag and thus increases its speed. The wheels are also less sensitive to side wind and the steering more precise, the cyclist feels more confident. The best results are achieved with 25mm tires. It also retains a version with asymmetric profile of 2mm (for heights of 36, 42 and 48mm). With the increase in the number of speeds, the cassette side flange of the hub is seen more and more recentered towards the inside of the wheel. The umbrella spokes opens further and this reduces the stability and lateral stiffness of the wheel: it is fuzzy in the raises, takes sail easily. Asymmetry gives an umbrella much higher than the symmetrical rims and rebalances the tensions of the two plies for more rigidity and durability.
Technology
-
VFP (Varnish Free Process)
Since 2021, our carbon rims benefit from a unique finish: incomparable brilliance and reflections thanks to a new process called VFP without varnish. This, also and above all, makes them more environmentally friendly by drastically reducing VOC and carbon dust emissions compared with a traditional rim. Without varnish, the rim is also harder on the surface, and more resistant to scratches.
-
SLR2 (Super light road series 2)
The SLR2 series for Road and Gravel is 15% lighter and more resistant than the sls version thanks to a completely new lay-up and a new resin which not only allow the same lateral rigidity to be maintained but also and above all to considerably improve the comfort, vibration filtering and rim performance. The SLR2 is manufactured in a sealed atmosphere and does not require any retouching when it comes out of the mould. No rework or varnish, the VFP gloss finish is ecological and exceptional!
-
Tubeless
Our Tubeless compatible rims (UST, Tubeless Ready and Notubes), only require some Duke rim tape and a Tubeless-ready valve. They can also be used in a classic clincher set up (tyre & inner tube).
-
Hooked
We keep the hooks on all our gravel and road rims. As the pressures used are higher than in mountain bikes, the risk of the tire sliding off the rim is too high with hookless rims. What's more, for a given inside width, rims with hooks have a wider outer width than rims without hooks, which enhances the aerodynamics of the rim/tire assembly.
-
Ultimate Comfort
Thanks to the latest innovations and our research into composite material, we have been able to develop a unique process that maximizes compliance and absorbs vibrations. The result is an ultra-dynamic rim that filters out the imperfections of the terrain to be appreciated whatever the distance.
-
Offset
Rim offset increases lateral stiffness and wheel stability without adding weight. The rim holes are off-center, improving the spokes brace angles. By better balancing the tensions between the two spoke sides, the wheel's durability is enhanced.
-
Aero
The outer shape of the rim is designed to optimize air flow around the rim and reduce turbulence. This helps to make the wheels more stable and faster. The rims can accommodate a wide range of tire widths, the rims are aerodynamically optimized for a narrower range.
